The only orthosis designed for those whose ability to walk is hindered by spasticity caused by a central nervous system disorder (e.g.: stroke, multiple sclerosis, etc.)
Similar devices are generally contraindicated by the manufacturer itself in cases of moderate to severe foot spasticity.

Opponent® is the only orthosis that prevents the forefoot and ankle from rotating inward.This allows the weight of the body to be distributed immediately and safely.
Absent when the subject with spasticity is stationary, the supination reflex occurs when walking, which results in a hindered or slower gait as the weight of the body is prevented from being distributed to the paretic side.
Though the gait remains spastic, it will be safer and more stable, therefore faster.

A sprained ankle is another frequent complication in cases of flaccid foot from central paralysis (drop foot) due to a central nervous system (CNS) disorder.
People with foot drop face a milder but similar challenge:
In this case, ankle instability and internal rotation are due to the weight of the body.
